http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/columns/20021007/insidedishrocketswilltes.html By Sean Deveney - Count the Rockets as another team converted to the flowing, motion offense in the style of the Kings and Nets. Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich says he wanted to incorporate a new offense last season, but the devastating run of injuries -- the team lost 304 games to injury, third-most in the league -- required that he keep things simple. The new offense will lessen the reliance on PG Steve Francis, and Houston has the right personnel to pull it off. With C Yao Ming and SF Bostjan Nachbar, plus the return of PF Maurice Taylor from injury and the development of SF Eddie Griffin, the Rockets have versatile big men who can hit jumpers and pass, as well as play the post. That's essential to a motion offense. . . . The Rockets have been unsuccessful thus far in finding PF Kenny Thomas a new home. Thomas had the best season of his career last year (14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds) while filling in for Taylor. But Thomas is a restricted free agent next summer, and with Taylor and Griffin aboard, Thomas would be better off with another team. . . . There is reason to hope the Magic can squeeze something out of PF Shawn Kemp. In five starts last year, he averaged 14 points and 13 rebounds. But there's a bad omen: Kemp rolled into camp at 310 pounds. "He can't jump anymore, not when he is that fat," says one scout. "So he just pops 10-footers, which is not his game at all." . . . This from Lakers C Shaquille O'Neal, when asked about the Nets acquiring C Dikembe Mutombo as an answer to him: "There is no answer to the Pythagorean theorem. Well, there is an answer, but by the time you figure it out, I got 40 points, 10 rebounds, and then we're planning for the parade."
But we're better off with him on ours. KT will fit in and play motion with us, he's not going anywhere soon.
Someone needs to tell Shaq the Pythagorean theorem isn't a question to be answered. It's the answer (solution) to a question. Fortunately for him, there won't be any hypotenuse questions in his duties as Sheriff Shaq.
You don't need a bunch of brains to muscle the ball to the hoop..Fortunately for Shaq.. I'll tellyawhut, if we leave it up to these sportswriters, EG will be at the 2 by mid-season..
I can see Griff playing some three. I think hes game and body type are similar to Rasheed Wallace. Wallace played the three when Dale Davis started for Portland. Sheed even played center throught his career. I see the same thing for Griffin. Hes versatile enough and I can see him at the 5 if Rudy ever has Mo, Kenny and him on the court all at the same time.
You'd think that somebody who plays in the triangle offense would have better understanding of the Pythagorean theorem.
Because they don't really do their j-o-b, and because they could have been fooled by the fact that EG jacked up a lot of 3's. Which is good. And not good.
