Some good stuff in this thread. The only band I didn't see mentioned was Joydrop. They only recorded one album, but it was pretty good. Tara Sloane took off after that and has done some solo work.

I liked her singing better when she was in Discount but she was overweight back then.

Harriet Wheeler's got such a great soothing voice.

me too..Tanya Donnelly really showed her range on the first album..but the second album was way underrated and was very well produced.

Most of the best have been covered. A couple I like that haven't been mentioned yet:
Bif Naked - might not count as a band
    Tegan and Sarah
Four Non Blondes - bit of a one hit wonder, but What's Goin' On is a great song
Kitten - Chloe Chaidez is 15, insane, and has a crazy energy live

These Nordic groups seem to keep their names simple. "The Sounds"? "The Knife" ? lol

Damn, it's been awhile since I've thought of Kittie.
When I was really little I can remember hearing my sister listening to their album Spit all the time. That band goes through members like crazy.

I guess none of you like no doubt. Gwen Stefani is weird in a good way in that she kept on getting hotter each year from 96. I can't believe there hasn't been a band with a girl lead since No Doubt that have as good or popular. Paramore is getting there, but their more emo punk rock.
