They use it a lot all over Texas, especially here in Austin. I highly recommend you get it.

I hate to thread hijack, but it seems appropriate.

What are some proven ways to avoid the radar/laser? This guy at the auto parts store told me about some kind of coating for your license plate that absorbs lasers instead of reflecting them. Things along those lines.

EDIT- never mind. The above link seems to have everything I need. Thanks!

Since the above post already did, what's up with the increasing number of cops in Houston? I see them every time I drive. It sucks when you can't even make a trip to the gas station without getting pulled over...in front of your house...after you have parked...wtf...

    Whats your price range?

Radardetector.net Forum has all the info you will need.

If you on a budget I would recommend a refurb escort 8500 from their ebay store. Link

If you prefer something new then a Whistler Pro78 SE or a Bel Vector series would be a good choice.

If you have more to spend then you can get a V1 for $399 new and its about the best you can get for highway use but it can be a bit chatty in the city. If your doing more city driving than highway I would consider a Escort 9500I or IX because of the gps that locks out falses.

I think all of those things have been proven to be junk by the Mythbusters, no?

Radar detectors give you a false sense of security. I used a pretty good one (forgot the name) and was caught speeding.
