Want to go see Yates play at Barnett

Ever since the controversy with Lee, I've been paying attention to Yates HS. I want to go check out a game at Barnett stadium (theres one today, but I dont know if I'll go), but I dont know how that all works.

How much are tickets at Barnett and what is the parking situation? I dont really want to pay more than $5 to see Yates destroy another local team, but I dont know if thats feasible. Any additional insights or things I should look for (ie players, plays) when I go?

Did you end up going? Anyhow, nothing new; Yates spanks another opponent: 154-39 over Davis.

It wouldn't be hyperbole to say that Saturday's game between Yates and Davis was over almost immediately after the opening tip.

The Lions went up 26-0 in the first three minutes of the quarter in route to a 154-39 rout of the Panthers at Barnett Fieldhouse.

Joe Young led all scorers with 29 points and Brandon Peters finished with 20 for Yates, which had nine players finish with double-digit scoring. Winfred Lang had a team-high 12 points for Davis, losers of 17 straight games.

While the Panthers had difficulty getting anything going at the offensive end in the first quarter, the Lions were at their best. Peters punctuated a 26-point run with a runaway tomahawk dunk before Lang scored Davis’ first basket with 4:24 remaining.

Coach Greg Wise then cleared his bench. Led by Ronnie Lewis, Shunerie Martin and Clyde Santee, who finished with 18, 16 and 15 points respectively, Yates finished out the quarter with a 49-6 advantage.

The Lions continued to dominate in the second with a balanced scoring attack that included three slams and eight layups for 22 fast-break points. Lang tried to keep his team on the offensive with seven points in the period, but the Panthers’ backcourt was no match for Yates’ swarming press. Gary Jackson’s mid-range jumper at the buzzer got the Lions, winners of 44 straight games dating back to last season, to 82-24 at the half.

More often than not, both teams retreat to the locker rooms at halftime to discuss game strategy for the final 16 minutes of play. But while Davis’ head coach William Jefferies pointed out the X’s and O’s to his players, Yates stayed on the court to perform free-throw shooting drills, running suicides after each missed shot.

Davis’ second half strategy didn’t reverse the Lions’ momentum in the third, as they rolled to a 100-26 lead with 4:58 remaining on a Peters’ finger-roll. On that play, Yates racked up its 12th 100-point plus game of the season. The Lions again cleared their bench, which included starters Elton Roy and Darius Gardner, both very late to the game because of the SATs.

With 5:58 left in the fourth, Yates stretched its lead to 101 points when Young nailed a jumper from behind the arc. On the next play, Young went above the rim for a two-handed dunk before going to the bench for good.

Yates' starters played roughly 17-18 minutes. The Lions played a full-court press the whole game, dropping into a man-to-man when Davis got the ball over the half-court line.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Lions’ 115 point drubbing of Davis looked a lot like its controversial win over Lee earlier in the season, which sparked national debate over sportsmanship in youth athletics.

“No, I don’t think they tried to run up the scoreboard on us,” Jefferies said. “Yates is a very good team. I joke all the time that they could beat the New York Knicks right now. My players played to the best of their abilities out there and represented the Davis name on their chests and that’s all I can ask for.”

I couldnt find anyone to go with, and I still dont have any idea about ticket prices. Pretty sure all of the games they play from here on out (til playoffs) will be lopsided. Regardless, I still want to see how it is physically possible to score 154 points in 32 minutes against the living.

Just a heads up...Yates plays today at 230 at Delmar Fieldhouse against the team they beat 170-35 a few weeks ago.

I went last weekend and the tix were $3.
