A friend of mine is having some trouble with his email. I'm trying to look at it and help, but I don't know what to do on this one. Here's the message he's getting: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server Response: ‘550 Relaying is prohibited’. (Account: ‘Palomanet Mail’, SMTP Server: ‘mail.palomanet.net’, Error Number: 0x800ccc79). When I first started seeing if I could find the problem, I sent an email from his address back to his address. That worked fine. But when I tried to send an email from his address to mine, or to any other number of email addresses, I got the above response. Any suggestions?
I've run into something similiar to this when I tryed to send a message to my email server from a different companie's dialup. It looks like the server thinks that the message isn't coming from it's network and is therefore bouncing it. AFAIU..it is a defense against spammers. but I could be wrong.
Rockets2K is correct. Are you actually logged onto the Palomanet ISP when you are trying to send this e-mail?
Here's the thing. He's retired, but is still allowed to use the company internet account at home. They gave him a computer with software, etc. (including internet access) as a retirement gift. So in order to connect to the internet he has to sign on with the company account name and password--a string of letters and numbers in both cases. But for email he has "hisname@palomanet.net" (the company's account is with palomanet) as an address. Could the problem have something to do with the "discrepancy" between his sign on name and his email address? Or could it have something to do with the fact that he's accessing it from home instead of at the office in the network? I'm taking shots in the dark here, and I'm not a very good shooter sometimes when it comes to computer stuff.
