So my bill was due in 2 days ...which wasn't enough time to mail it or send in Quicken. So I log onto their website to pay online. Done.

On my next bill I'm past due + a $23 penalty. I call and they tell me my routing # was refused. (I cut/paste the # from my company website which is used for my direct depost so I know it was a good #). So I ask them what was used and they can't tell me because once a transaction fails, they wipe out all the info from their system! Huh? So I ask how do they know I entered the info wrong if they have no record of it and their answer is it had to be wrong because it was refused. I said prove it. She said ...you prove it. WHAT? No further explanation. I must pay the penalty or they cut off my gas.

    F'ers. Monopolies suck.

I hate the fee companies charge to pay on line. You'd think they'd prefer that to the hassle of opening envelopes.

$4.95 to pay online for GEXA. i suppose it beats paying the Reliant rate which was 25% higher.

Yea, if you pay by credit card ...they charge a fee. They had another option to pay against your checking for free. So I regrettably did that.

You need to contact Bill Matrix. CenterPoint doesn't handle your banking or credit card information, the middle man does.

When a payment is made, do they show a confirmation screen? I always print that out to a PDF file and save it just in case situations like this arise.

Did you ask for a manager? Most companies will let the fee go, and maybe you just got a b****.

This happened to me once. Since then when I pay a bill online, I print the confirmation page to PDF and save it to my external hard drive. The confirmation usually has payment info on it (i.e. credit card info, and/or bank info). So when they pull that crap I can be like Booyakah! Got my proof, Trick!

(sorry had to break out he early 90s diss word) I'll save Mark-buster for later.

I am not saying Centerpoint is blameless, but sometimes the routing number for direct deposits and for payments are different. You should always get the routing number for payments directly off a check.

Yea, i normally do save all my confirmations. But this ONE time I apparently did not cause I can't find it. So they totally F'ed me. That's the last time that happens.

Bill-Matrix, now that you mention it ...I do recall they were in the mix. I found a number for them so I'll try to give them a call.

...and yes, I was speaking with a manager.
