He's a clear starter in this league and has the ability to actually create his own offense unlike Childress. Childress was always kind of like a poor man's Shawn Marion for the Hawks -- energy, hustle, defense, rebounding and lots of "garbage points". Marvin is definitely better than Childress. Not Josh Smith, though. I agree with ya on that.
