The West Alabama Ice House definitely opens your beer for you. I don't think that law (taking your word it exists) is strictly enforced, if at all.
Those TABC "codes" are rarely enforced. Now that you mention it, West Alabama Ice House may not even be operating under an "ice house" permit anymore. They may be operating on an "on premise" beer/wine permit at this point.

Just to clarify. There is a specific "ice house" permit? How does that differ from a "beer / wine" permit and does it cover food or do they need a seperate permit?
The only one I've been to is Alabama Ice House. I like to bring my kids there. I don't attempt to watch anything sports-related, because my kids would probably run into the street when we're down by 2 with 10 seconds left. They're girls, so they mostly just entertain themselves. I do appreciate the hotdogs for the kids. And the kids love the live music and the roaming dogs. (I wouldn't bring my own dog because she'd fight all the other dogs.) I don't do much but sit outside, drink beer, listen to the music, play with the kids and talk to my friends. I do occassionally play horse-shoes and, more rarely, pool. I think I'd be interested in a place like this with more things for kids. Though, I don't know if jungle gyms or batting cages are something you want to give drunks easy access to.
I can't remember what the permit is called. It differs in that you can sell beer for on- and off-premise consumption.
