Why does Chuck Hayes still have no offense?

He plays his role. If he cant get any offense well so be it.

 

It'd be so nice if this guy had a mid-range jumper and was capable of finishing better like with a dunk.

Honestly, he would start over Scola easily if he wasn't such an offensive liability.

 

Because his defense is sooo much better than his offense, he'd rather focus on defense.

Why does everyone like Mutombo, even though he is a liability offensively?

 

remember the pistons? Ben Wallace had no offense in that line up either

 

Why did Wilt Chamberlain shoot under 50% on free throws over his career? He got to the line more than anyone, so you figure he'd have learned to shoot those better right? I bet you he cost his team more points by missing free throws than Chuck has by not being able to hit a jumper.

Some guys just don't have the talent.

Dikembe has been in the NBA for a long long time, he still does not have a good jumper.

Best example of this would be Shaq. Terrible jump shooter/free throw shooter.

 

I'm talking about just the jump shot of these players, not all around offense btw.

 

If KG can teach him self to dribble well and shoot a a long jumper Chuck Hayes can learn a 5 foot shot.

He actually was a decent offensive option at Kentucky. I guess he just had to reinvent himself in order to find his role in the NBA.

 

Why do we still pay him a little more than 1M/year?

 

The OP does have a valid point...I love Chuck Hayes for all the things he does for our team, but good Lord I can't for the life of me understand how come some NBA players cannot develop a midrange jumpshot even after being in the league for years. All they're paid to do is work on their game in the offseason, it's not that hard to develop a consistent J!

nah, but for real, he's more of a Ben Wallace type of player...minus the blocked shots and steals..he's a blue collar, gritty type of forward.

 

I dont know but people dont realize how great of a passer he is

 

Chuck's weaknesses on offense are pretty obvious, but you're right there are things he does pretty well that get overlooked:

• he's our best big at forcing turnovers which can ignite a fast break
• he's our best big at forcing a miss, getting the rebound, and throwing the outlet .. again, that can start an early offense opportunity
• he sets pretty good screens
• he's our best passer out of the high post
• he's good at tracking the long offensive rebounds, and when he does so he's particularly good at quickly finding the 3-point shooters.

 

He's PF, too short for post offence, and just slow enough to not get an open midranger. Plus there's no need for him to be a jumpshoter anyway since his offensive rebound is good.

 

I think his options were decent O + decent to better than average D or no O and amazing D.

Presumably, he knew there were a lot of other NBA players with the first option who are much more athletic than him, so he decided to become a defense specialist and choose the second option, thus becoming the legend that is the Chuckwagon!

 

I'm sure he has no offense because he's lazy, has no desire to get more minutes and is overall just not interested in being a good basketball player.

I mean who needs work ethic to be a 6'6" PF with limited athleticism shutting down some of the best post players in the game and grabbing minutes on a very good NBA team.
