Well, I have had this horse for about 5 years, it was maxed out when i got it, and has served me well.

But lately the USB ports have started going out, I am not sure there is a fix for that, maybe replace the MB? Not sure that is worth it....so....assuming that is not possible, I am seeking laptop recommendations.

Currently I have a 15" Screen, good video card, lots of ram, and a good sized HDD spinning at 7200......

What is out there these days that can do it all, and do it for a reasonable price?

    Suggestions welcomed, and needed.

    Thanks in advance.

Not worth the repair unless you can do it for under $100. Check ebay for a mobo.

We recently got a laptop from the Dell XPS line and have been very happy with it. I am sure to people who know a lot about computers and such it is overpriced- but I know it works great. Worth the $ to me.

Second the XPS line. Say no to Lenovo and HP.

When this happened to me, I bought a card for the expansion slot on my laptop that has 2 USB ports. It was like $15 and did the job. If you want a new laptop, though, buy one.

It looks like there may be an extra USB port under some plastic tab, need to get it out to take a look...

Still...this is an older laptop....and I think I need something better....I would like to get XP though and stay clear of Vista.

Also, how would I transfer all my data across to the new laptop without a solid USB connecton?

    ARGHHH !!!

This is a Dell Insprion 8600

Got nothing but great feedback on Toshiba laptops. They are cheap and packed with features, and will last you a while.

8 laptops in my family alone, 5 of them Toshiba, two of them have been running flawlessly for about 4 years now (bought together) and absolutely no problems. The rest are newer and no problems so far either.

Go here for the deals they have now:

    http://www.toshibadirect.com

They have a packed 17" one for $750

Get a Fujitsu. Top-notch quality. My 4-year old Fujitsu laptop is still running strong with no problems at all, and my dad's 2000 Pentium 3 version is also going great.

If the Toshibas were the ones I had, I'd avoid them at all cost. Those "great programs" (i.e. bloatware) are a nuisance to get rid of and you can't install the drivers without installing the bloatware as well.
