Can you think of any other songs like: Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" Scorpions' "Send Me an Angel" Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorns"
What do these songs have in common: gravel voice? If so, I suggest you investigate Motorhead's collected work.
I'm trying to figure out the connection too? Classic Rock power ballads.. Breakup songs... Songs you are most likely to hear being sung by drunk frat boys?
that definitely isn't the connection. More like "Songs that make you wonder how you ended up at such a crappy concert"
Me thinks someone was watching VH1's Women of the Sunset Strip this weekend. The first one that came to mind: Cinderella -Nobody's Fool -Somebody Save Me -Don't Know What You Got (Til Its Gone)
Compare this to Def Leppard's "Bringin' On the Heartache," why dontcha. Unreal how identical those songs are.
Can't stand em, or any of those cheesy spandex hair bands,... BUT (at the risk of sounding cheesy, or worse, myself) That Save Me video they used to play has a completely incredible part in it. They are playing live, and the guitar players are facing each other during part of a solo (one lefty, one right), and for the last "lick" they reach over and pick the other guitar while each frets the measure. It is made of awesome. Sure, sounds kinda homosexual when written out like that (not that there's anything wrong with that) but it always struck me as a pretty impressive feat.
