Planning a trip to NY in August, and as part of my "convincing the wife to go when she really wants to go to some bed & breakfast in west Texas" strategy I'm considering staying at the Waldorf. She's always wanted to stay there and fawns over it during sappy little romance movies like Serendipity.

I just want to know if it's worth it. The other places around there are the Crowne Plaza in Times Square, etc. Anyone with any experience? We normally stay at a Mariott or something that's not cheap, but not expensive. I need to make sure the room as air conditioning that I can control and preferably internet access that doesn't cost me money.

Please advise BBS. You are my lifeline.

Jaffe liked it. Well, maybe not so much...

But he was dealing with family issues.

I stay there pretty frequently, and I am fairly certain you can control the thermostat in the rooms, but you will have to pay for internet. Its either 10 or 20 dollars/day, can't remember which. Request a room in the Towers, they seem to have nicer suites based on my experience. Hope this helps. I am not sure how old you are, but there is a very cool W right across the street that you should be able to get a good deal on that is a lot more "happening" than the Waldorf.

Yeah I saw the W, but didn't know anything about it. I'm in my 20s. The perk about a place like the Waldorf is that the wife doesn't want to go in the first place, so staying there would be a big help in convincing her.

I went through Priceline the last time I went to NY and got a room at the Waldorf. It was their cheaper Internet-rate rooms so it's not like I was living it Coming to America style.
It was nice. I can say that I've stayed there. But I wouldn't go out of my way to book it there again.
I do remember they had a brunch thing going on in the lobby for $50 and there was a long line for that. I said no thanks and grabbed something in the street.

:D Thank you, sir. You beat me to it.

"[to Semmi] Semmi, you have disgraced yourself, and you must be punished. Confine yourself to our royal suite at the Waldorf-Astoria.
[to Oha] And see that he puts on some decent attire.
[to the rose bearers] And I want you to bathe him thoroughly."
"[after realizing what he will get] Oh, thank you, Your Majesty!!!"
