Here's a thought: Suppose we get the 5th pick, and DeJuan Wagner is available at 5. The Clips need a point guard, so we offer the 5 for their picks at 8 and 12. We then take Caron Butler at 8 (hopefully he'll be there - NBADraft.net has him going 9), and Chris Marcus at 12.

With this type of trade, we can send our 15 to Memphis, and not risk losing a lottery pick next summer. All while addressing our needs for a good 3 and backup 5.

Of course, this assumes a lot of contingencies come through.

Also, I don't see the Clips wanting to keep both picks, when they have a wealth of young talent already.

Just my opinion, but I don't see the Clipps giving up both picks. If Marcus (or any big man) is available at 12, they'll keep the pick since since Olowokandi is a qualifying offer FA.

I think you're on the right track, though. If the Clipps truly want Wagner and the Rocks really want Odom this is where it will happen.

I can envision the Rockets sending the rights to Wagner and filler (KT + Collier - team option next summer) to the Clipps for the rights to Borchardt and Odom.

I'd do that trade in a minute.

As to trading picks with the Clips, keep in mind that it is always easier to trade down than to trade up, so I do not think 8 and 12 for the #5 pick is out of line, especially considering it took us 3 picks to move up to #7 last year.

We're trying to get this team to run. Please don't get Marcus.

Wagner, Marcus and filler to the Clipps for Odom and Hilario?

    Isn't that a better deal?

    Sane -

If the Rocks do wind up with both picks and are lucky enough to get Butler at #8, Marcus will not slow the Rock down as much as his rebounding and Butler's atleticism will speed them up.

That would be a great deal, but isn't Hilario projected to be 4?

Or if you don't like Marcus at 12, maybe one of either Borchardt (not likely) or Stoudemire (more likely) would be still left.

Maybe the Clips would go for the #5 and the Chicago obligation in exchange for Odom. Because we're over the cap, such a trade couldn't be consummated until July 15th or whenever.

LAC could use #5, #8, and #12 to trade for J-Will or Yao. Or replace all the players Sterling's gonna lose by being cheap.

We don't need to get younger, we need veteran leadership...getting more draft picks just delays the move to competitivness.

ROXTXIA - Unless I am misunderstanding something, Draft Day trades for a pick or picks and a swap of draft rights can be performed on Draft Day as long as the contracts traded are within the CBA guidelines and the player(s) are not FA's.

This is how Atlanta and Memphis swapped picks and players last year. (Wright, etc for Abdur-Rahim).
