I was tinkering around the other day and noticed that my network speed on my laptop was much slower than my desktop using the following speedtest: http://computingcentral.msn.com/internet/speedtest.asp I decided to root around in the registry and compare the network values between the two machines. I found that my laptop settings were rather ridiculous, modified them and tripled the download speed. The following web site explains some of the values I changed: http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_registry.shtml In particular, my DefaultRcvWindow was very small on my laptop. I thought some of you may be interested in this sort of info. Obviously, if you are not comfortable editing your registry, do not try this at home. I'm running Windows ME.
You can also check your speed and settings by going to DSL Reports TOOLS they offer tweaks and tons of info! They also have great forums/message boards!
There are tools out there that do this for you. Check rockHEAD's link or just DSLReports.com in general.
