Considering that the median HH income in the US is 50k, and that statisticians and economists traditionally define it as 25k-99k what is your point?

OTHER THAN EPIC MEGA PANDA FAIL FAIL?

The Obama / Biden ticket is being generous. $150,000 is NOT the middle class.

    Household income distribution

    Bottom 10% $0 to $10,500
    Bottom 20% $0 to $18,500
    Bottom 25% $0 to $22,500
    Middle 33% $30,000 to $62,500
    Middle 20% $35,000 to $55,000

    Top 25% $77,500 and up
    Top 20% $92,000 and up
    Top 5% $167,000 and up
    Top 1.5% $250,000 and up
    Top 1% $350,000 and up

SOURCE: US Census Bureau, 2006; income statistics for the year 2005

In 2005, approximately one and half percent (1.5%) of households in the United States had incomes exceeding $250,000 with the top 5% having incomes exceeding $157,000. - "U.S. Census Bureau, income quintiles and Top 5%, 2004".

    FAIL FAIL

250k a year middle class is a total joke. I am sure pretty soon it would be if you make less than one mil you are poor.

I'm not sure that it matters what middle class is, though it seems like everyone wants to consider themselves middle class. Obama's tax plan draws a line at $250k (jointly); it doesn't matter if that's a threshold in classes or not.

I think the line is 100-150 (jointly) to stop the tax cuts (or welfare/tax credit) then 150 to 250 will be unchanged and over 250 is a rate increase.

Okay. That's a useful way of breaking it down to know if you stand to gain/lose/break-even. Still not associated with arbitrary class distinctions.

Middle class: best defination is middle 50%-60% why else would they call it the middle class. When you are in the top 3-5% of families how could you think of yourself as middle class?

Because there's always somebody richer than you. Even if you're making $350K a year, Bob down the street makes more. He's got better cars and takes better vacations. Booohoooo!
