There are independent companies that amass tape and non-traditional stats that are purchased by teams and media. I would think this effort would be something like that.

Since they can cut the time-outs from the video, you only need to watch an hour or so of tape. However, for all the detail they want, I can see the analyst needing to pause and even rewind frequently.

As for data integrity, I imagine they'd do it like a data entry job I had ages ago. You have 2 people enter data (without knowing each other) for the same game and compare them. If they match, keep the data. If they don't, a manager looks into it. Keep stats on all your data entry people and if they are wrong too often, fire them.

I got hired. The guys running it seem pretty cool. It is definitely a time-consuming process though. It's not for everyone. You have to have a true interest in it. I think it's pretty cool personally though.

btw, thanks for posting this durvasa. I had been looking for a way to make some extra cash and this was right up my alley.

    Sounds fun.

Probably for the younger people that is why they are paying so low. +$35 to watch a basketball game! If you want to enjoy it, watch it first, then write down everything... then at least you when and what to look for.

    But, I can't do it >.<

I got a little busy, so I've only finished 3 games so far. It's pretty tedious at the beginning because there are a lot of values to remember. Now that I'm on my 4th game, I've got it all memorized and I can move fairly quickly. However, there's a lot of subjectivity so it's hard to always know that the way you charted a play is the way that the reviewer is going to chart the play. That's just something you have to get a feel for.

As far as legitimacy, I just received payment for my first 3 games via paypal yesterday. They pay for the first 3, then every 5 after that. I'm hoping to do at least a couple of games a week (8-10 a month). That'd be a nice little chunk of change to pay the bills.

So yeah, it's legitimate, but it's a good bit of work early on. Apparently most of the "veteran" charters roll through a game in 1.5 to 2 hours, so if and when you get to that point, it's a heck of a deal.

$30 to start. After 20 games or so, they evaluate your accuracy and if it's up to snuff, it goes to $35. If one can finish in an hour and a half or two hours, that's roughly $20 per hour, tax free.

CCR, have you learned anything about certain players you didn't realize before? What having you been tracking (if you're allowed to say)?

We're asked not to divulge what we're charting, but I can tell you that Andre Miller is a terrible defender.
