With the swan dive that has become the Toronto Raptors season, it definitely looks like the Rockets are only going to have one pick int he first round. With that being said I guess that puts alot of trade scenarios of trading the Raptors' first-round pick plus the Rockets' pick for Odom, or Lewis. etc. I think the Rockets would be better served trading the pick along with a current player or players to move up and draft a player that could be an immediate impact. What do the rest of you think?

I am thinking that Langhi and Willis will be the two players to be replaced next year. We will let Langhi go and develop elsewhere. If Willis or Walt want to stick around at a significant paycut, fine. One of those spots have to go for a 5. Is there a 5 in the draft that we want that we cannot get with our pick? If we have to trade up fine, but I doubt whether it would require a whole lot more than our pick. The most I would give up in the trade is the pick and OT and hope for the best.

We can still trade Williams in a sign and trade. Of course, at the kind of money he'll probably make next season, interested teams probably won't have to trade for him.

I don't think the idea of coupling our own pick with Toronto's is completely dead. We're still getting Toronto's pick; we just have to wait till next year. Teams may be interested in trading down in this draft to get an extra spot in next year's draft. Of course, without having our own #1 next year (since it's going to Memphis), we may want to hang on to Toronto's so we can have a pick in the 2003 draft's first round.

What were the restrictions for next year? In my opinion, Toronto is no shoe-in for a playoff spot next year either. I expect Miami to be stronger from the get-go, the Knicks to be back in the picture, and, if Jordan is healthy, the Wizards to be competing again. Grant Hill may be heatlhy, AI might not miss so many games, Indiana will be more comfortable with their new lineup and have Harrington back, Charlotte should have Mashburn for a full year. Heck, if Theo Ratliff and Toni Kukoc ever get health and the Hawks pick up a good draft pick, they may actually even contend. This all becomes significant if Toronto's pick is not lottery protected next year???

I dont see why the #7 pic won't do on it's own to get Lewis other than the fact that we need to get rid of someone. Afterall he was a second round pick.

2nd round pick for Lewis? Hasn't Seattle said they are rebuilding around him?

I think the #7 pick plus a sign and trade with Williams will bring Lewis, and that should be pretty even. If Seattle thinks that Lewis will walk they will be more than happy to use that pick for a 4 and let Desmond Mason start. However we will still be stocked at the 3 with Lewis, Rice and possibly Torres. However, I'd rather have Odom than Lewis because of his versatility.

    Odom. Not Lewis, Odom.

With our picks, we'll take the best C and best PF available. Then, we do this:

Both picks (#6 and #14 hopefully) + Mooch

    for

    Odom + 2004 top-3 protected draft pick

It seems to be counterintuitive to this thread to be proposign a trade in which we use a Toronto pick we almost definitely won't be getting.

Toronto draft pick question right here:

Seattle owes Toronto a 1st rounder this year if they make the playoffs. It would be around the 21st pick.

Would you accept that pick as compensation or just wait til next year?

Personally, I would wait. I think they will make the playoffs next year, but not be a top 9 team record wise like Seattle is this year. Who knows, maybe Toronto will really implode and we'll eventually end up with a sweet pick like Detroit did with that Thorpe trade. Though I think that is highly unlikely. :)

Only way I would take that pick is if I thought this year's draft was super deep.

The pick Toronto owes us is lotto-protected for 7 years or something. It won't get better as time goes on.

Well that sucks. Might be a smart move to accept that Sonic pick *if* they offer it, if this is considered a deep draft.

JayZ, I don't think we have any obligations other than the Grizz one. The Sonics pick wont fufill those obligations unless its within what? 2 spots of our pick position?

Did we satisfy the Atlanta one from the T-Mo trade already?
