    Also, sorry, but I don't know what a "philosophy of collectivism" and a "Republican mindset" are. Honestly, please define.

    Collectivism = opposite of individualism, i.e. putting the concerns of the collective ahead of the individual.

    Republican mindset = how people who vote Republican tend to think.

    utilitarianism? Killing the baby so the village can sleep sort of thing. I understand the example is quite extreme, but along the same lines.

    Does he use the word "collectivism?" That doesn't seem like a good charactization. It is something more akin to nationalism, I think, which jives well with republicanism.
