This is a great day for this country, and for our political process. no matter which ticket wins in november, history will be made. i actually choked up a bit watching Palin get introduced, and i imagine many of you had similar reactions last night watching Obama.

What a great country we live in. We should all be proud...of ourselves.

Yep, first thing I thought of when he picked her.

Also, McCain would be the oldest elected non-incumbent ever. Although that's not necessarily a virtue for some. :D

Yep and I bet the Libertarian Party gets more votes than ever before due to the historical nature of Obama and Palin.

I don't get the view that nominating a minority candidate (black or female) is in itself a sign of significant social progress, if what they stand for fits into the status quo. Frankly, I think that's the case for both Obama and Palin. I guess that makes me a cynic.

According to most people I know, I qualify as a cynic too. But if you don't think nominating a black or a woman candidate for president isn't a sign of significant social progress in this country, you are either blind or too young to understand, not cynical.

Back around to the Founding Fathers that included women and black men?

And I fully agree with the thread starter.

I don't often see eye to eye with basso. But in this instance I do.

I think this is a positive sign.
