Just read this classic for the first time. Excellent scifi novel in which both the science and the story were top notch (for the most part). The wierd thing was that it was so familiar at parts because it has influenced other works.
Woah. Good timing, Joe Joe. I just finished reading Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon to complete the 6 book Ender series. Ender's Game is an awesome book. I recommend checking out Ender's Shadow, the book about Bean. It's told from Bean's point of view. Speaker For the Dead was cool, but Xenocide and Children of the Mind got a bit far fetched. I'd still recommend those books, too, if you want to read about Ender's continuing adventures (albeit at an older age). I hear that Ender's Game is going to be a movie. I also heard that (groan) Jake Lloyd was pushing hard for the role of Ender. Haley Joel Osmont would be better, IMO...
Ender's Game definately is a great book. Vesceysux, do you have any information on the movie? Last year when I read the book I heard that they were thinking about a movie too, but when I looked into I got the impression it wasn't happening. Personally, I can't stand Haley Joel Osmont.
arkoe: Go here for some info on the Ender's Game movie. After reading some of the info on the aforementioned site, it appears that neither Jake Lloyd nor Haley Joel Osmont will play Ender. Miramax passed on the movie rights, but another studio now has them, I believe.
Ender's Game is a truly excellent book. I didn't care much for the sequels however, although Ender's Shadow was good (probably because it is essentially the same book as Ender's Game).
Ender's Game is the only novel I've ever read in one sitting. what an amazing story. I've read the main Ender 4-piece set, but I haven't read the two Shadow books. I want to. part of me hopes they'll make the movie, and part of me just hopes they'll leave it alone. GREAT book!
Orson Scott Card is good. I liked A Planet Called Treason (I believe that was the name) even better than some of the Ender series. Doesn't he also write the Tales of Alvin Maker? Those kick ass as well.
Orson Scott Card lives in my community. He is now a columnist for this local weekly paper: www.RhinoTimes.com. Check it out if you are interested.
Holy potatoes. I have to read this book for class today and present the first 7 chapters tommorow. I had never even heard of this book before last week. Crazy coincidence.................
Hmmm.... yes Ender's Game is absolutely fantastic. I met OSC last summer and hung out with his son a lot. I have to say that his son is just as geeky as you'd expect a science fiction writer's son to be. But Orson himself is very very cool.
I loved Ender's game. The sequel wasn't as good. The sequel to that was sort of boring. And the sequel to that was terrible. That seems to be how it is with all of Card's series. At least, I felt that way about the Alvin Maker and Homecoming series. He writes a really good first novel, but that gets too involved with his sociological/philosophical arguments that he forgets to write a well-plotted novel with developed characters. I don't mind it when some elements of philosophy/sociology are included in books... but when an author is trying to validate his claims through contrived circumstances, it annoys the hell out of me. Just entertain me, unless you're really, really serious.
Wow, I read that book almost 10 years ago! IMO it's a great book and would make a really good movie if done right.
