Anyone heard of Welker Engineering?

    The company sells equipment to oil and petroleum companies and has been for 50 years. It's based in Sugar Land.

    I wanted know if anyone knows how the work environment is like for an office job.

    It's been 20 years since I've been to Welker, but last time I was there the office was tiny, like a couple secretaries and not much else.

    I just looked at their website and the pictures shown bear absolutely no resemblance to the place I knew, so nevermind.

    My dad worked there for like 10 years as a laborer, and the Welkers were my neighbors growing up. I'd have to say the people there and the work environment were pretty nice, because my dad never kept a job for longer than a year otherwise. The owner and his kids (who probably run it now) were pretty good people too.

    Wow 10 years. It sounds like the company keeps their employees in mind. The recruiter even told me that the company and I have similar roads because we are both growing. And when I do grow into a better professional, they want me to train the incoming hires as well. Kind of threw me off, but I was glad to hear how they knew how I felt at this early stage of my career.

    I know they provide benefits, but I it doesn't have a summary on their site. I wonder why this company hasn't gone public since it's been around for 50 years

    From what I remember, the Welker's went to high school with me at Kempner and employed a lot of people in my class. It's a family run business so they'll probably take good care of you.

    That was more than 10 years ago, so I'm sure it's grown a lot since then. Either way, working for these guys is going to be a hell of a lot more fun than corporate hell like XOM or IBM.
