I don't know if anyone has noticed but Steve has taken his game to another level over the last month or so. Here are his avg's since Jan 16:

    28 points, 8.3 assist, 8.5 rebounds

Those are MVP type numbers IMO. I can't think of any other active players that can currently put up those types of numbers with any type of consistency. Notice to MJ fans I know his numbers were like those back in the day but he can't do it now on a regular basis.

I acknowledge the fact that Steve’s decision making while running the offense has left a lot to be desired and his defense needs improving as does his turn overs but his point, assist and rebound numbers are starting to approach Oscar Robertson type production.

Over the course of the last couple of games Steve has reduced his turnovers and started making better decisions. Steve has also started learning that there are people on the floor (primarily Cato) that can give his assist avg. a huge boost if he will just get them the ball in scoring position.

I know that until Steve puts in a little more time correcting his deficiencies he will not be a serious contender for MVP but with just a little more time he can improve his defense and correct a lot of the little flaws in his game and when that happens people will be comparing him to the most dominant players today.

Crash, the same can be said for the opposing pg's in that same span. This is the 3rd 30pt 10asst game given up by him between Nash,Davis and Miller. I used to think Kenny Smith defence was bad, but Francis or Rudy is making every point look like Magic Johnson.

Damn it man is it really so hard to point out the positives in someones game and praise him for that? How much of my post did you read? Did you see where I acknowledged his problems including defense. Go ahead and show me another player in the league that has put up those numbers for an extended period of time.

I agree that Steve has been playing poor D and turning over the ball too much. Now can you agree that 28, 8.3 amd 8.5 are numbers that are unatainable on any kind of consistant basis for almost every other player on the planet?

Who else can avg those types of numbers?
    MJ? when he was younger.
Jason Kidd? Can't even begin to be close to 28 pts over the course of a month and his rebounding is good but not as good as Steves.
    TMac? No.
    Vince? NO
    Kobe? No
    AI? No
    Miller? No
    Davis? No
    Ray Allen? No

I am not talking about avging those types of numbers over the course of 2 or three games or even a week, I am talking about sustaining it over a longer period. Steve has been doing this now for the better part of a month.

Don't misunderstand this post as me saying Steve is better than anyone because that is not what I am saying at all. I am just trying to point out that the pts, rebounds and assist numbers he is starting to avg is just phenominal. We see it every night so it is easy for us to take that kind of production for granted but no one else in the league can live up to those combined standards for scoring, rebounding and assists.

Try comming up with the players of the past 50 years that have been able to sustain those types of combined numbers and you will see what kind company Steve is in.

Once again I am not talking about total game just pts, rebounding and assists.

AS BAD AS YOU SAY STEVIE'S D IS YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE FACT HE DOESN'T EVEN GUARD THE OTHER TEAMS PG HALF THE TIME. WITH THE 3-GUARD LINE UP THE ROCKETS HAVE BEEN RUNNING HE'S BEEN GUARDING THE OTHER TEAMS SG. ESPECIALLY IN THE 4TH QUARTER...
SO WHAT YOU GOING TO LOOK INTO THE OTHER TEAMS SG STATS? PLEASE.................

Yeah, Stevie's numbers in those 3 categories do make your eyes pop out at times. I guess that's a major reason he was voted to the All Star game this year.

Unfortunately, he's been hampered by injuries this season to the tune of what, 20 games so far? That doesn't help his chances of being considered an MVP of the league. Of course, the 1-19 record we've posted in those games shows just how valuable Franchise is to the team -- poor defense or no poor defense.

I would like to see his defense taken up a notch, though. Imagine how many more breakaway dunks we'd see if he stole a couple more passes a game :)

You keep saying that no one else can put up those numbers consistently, but Francis isn't either. 3 weeks is not consistently, and how many games did he miss in that span? What are we talking about here, 8, 10 games?

Got to give it up to Steve's offense, can't imagine what he will do once he licks this migraine problem.

he played in 9 games and missed 3 since Jan 16th. We will see how long he can keep it up. I would like to see what he would do if he ever gets his migrains under control.

I don't know if you can say Kobe can't average those numbers.

Great numbers for Steve, INCREDIBLE streak. But there is room for improvement, and let's hope he fills that room.

Kobe probably could put up those type of numbers if he really wanted to but as of yet he has not. His numbers are pretty good though with about 5.5 assists and rebounds a game to go along with 26 pts a game. Not too many people on the planet can avg those types of numbers over a season either.

Here are Steves season stats: 22.6pts 6.6assists 7.5rebounds. Man if Steve could ever learn to play D like Kobe he would be unreal. I have to agree with you there is definitely room for improvement.
