I'm an undecided voter. Most of my life I have been a staunch Democrat, but as I have grown I found myself pulled more towards the middle. With some of the liberal stances McCain has, I am leading more towards voting for him. There is still alot of research that I need to do before I decide to cast my vote, but I was curious to know what the biggest fear Democrats have with McCain as president.

I am an independent. My biggest fear from McCain is that we will have 4/8 more years of significant troop presence in Iraq.

    1) he is clueless regarding the economy
    2) iraq/iran
    3) free speech issues

If it was not for his stance on Iraq, and his weird flip-flopping on torture, I might vote for him over Hillary.

In 2000 I might've supported McCain vs Al Gore but I have a hard time supporting him given his positions on national security and civil liberties. I fully agree with him on trade and like his previously stated immigration position, before he started to tweak it to win the nomination. I don't think endless war will make us safer and I don't think civil liberties should be sacrificed out of a percieved need for security.

This thread is for "Dems" only? I think the Repubs have some fears as well concerning Mccain...

    McCain concerns....

    Hawkish foreign policy--
-More money spent overseas (and more of this on bombs than on humanitarian aid)
    -Creation of more enemies

    Hawkish domestic policy--
-Probably will be no attempt to tackle the looming health care system disaster
-Potential for further gutting education, science and health funding
-Running away from his previous somewhat reasonably attempt at comprehensive immigration reform.
-Running away from his concern about the previous tax breaks in leading to more debt and being unequitable.

I used to really like John McCain (pre 2002) and he still has his moments (immigration bill, campaign finance)--but he seems to be running away from all pragmatic and moderate positions he used to have.

I know that they have been trying to characterize this concern as a 'low blow', but it legitimately was my concern when I first looked at him running and still is my concern.

I worry that McCain is deteriorating, and that this will continue at an accelerated rate. A mentally enfeebled president making bad decisions or serving as a figurehead for the nefarious agenda of shadowy figures is something we’ve already experienced with ‘dubbya’ and is not one I care to repeat.

    For me:

Immigration - Dislikes the idea of a secure border.

Race - Uses the term gook

Guns - Thinks you need to be in the .gov to hold one. Just like he was!

Iraq - Is saying he will stay there for X years.

War on Drugs - Calling for billions more to be put into fighting drugs.

Gay marriage - Thinks it is possible to have a state solution to gay marriage

School Vouchers - Do I really have to say anything? (he likes the idea)
