Wouldn't the fact that he ran such a terrible campaign put in question his judgment and competence though? Some of it was certainly out of his control (McCain's resurgence) but he seemed to make every wrong decision possible over the last few months.

It's a pretty well-established fact that he surrounds himself with notorious yes-men. crafted in his image I'm sure they told him that not bothering to campaign in the early states was a smashing idea. In fact I can imagine how this strategy worked out - Rudy floats the idea of skipping Iowa - then another hack decided to one up that and get in good and says no let's skip Iowa AND NH! Then another hack and another hack and pretty soon he's sitting out the whole first month.

I don't think it's possible in this thread to convey the depths of animosity that FDNY guys have for Rudy.
