Well, I have really tried not to be negative, especially after getting on to people here about it. But as popeye the sailor man would say (not oeilpere), "Tha's all I can stands, and I can't stands no more!" Being in chat with as many as 36 other people, I can vouch that nothing sucked more than to see the Rockets choke like that. They choked so bad that even Heimlich himself couldn't have saved them. However, I have seen this before way too many times. Remember the Sonics game or how about the Clippers game in LA? We go through these very long stretches of not being able to score if our life depends on it. I had made the comment in chat that I hoped that the Rockets wouldn't go on one of their patented scoring droughts, and a couple of people agreed with me that this (scoring droughts)happens very frequently. This season is not the first that I have noticed it...hell, I have noticed it for what seems like years. So, I have come to this conclusion (some of you will say "duh!"): Rudy T has no freaking clue on how to run an offense! Even before teams could play a zone, the guy just couldn't figure out what to do to get his team some easy baskets. When you are struggling at putting the ball into the hole, you look for easy baskets like off a turnover. However, what do the Rockets do? They pound the ball into the court by going dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, .... and then with 5 seconds left off the shot clock they throw up some crazy-ass shot that has no chance of going in. It is so hopeless that it would be better to bet on the NCAA coming up with a playoff in college football. I know it has been mentioned in other threads about the lack of movement and I'm sure that this topic has been mentioned ever since this site was activated, but dammit...a game like tonight will really make the most fervent and die-hard Rudy T fan (like me) say "I really wish you could teach a team how to play offense"! I agree with some of the sentiments in the RocksMillenium thread "Enough is Enough!", that if Rudy T doesn't win these next 2 games against the Bulls and the Wizards, then he needs to be fired.
I think we have had a 5+ minute scoring drought in about every game we've played this year. It's pathetic. It stems from the defense knowing what the Rockets do on offense everytime. If Rudy doesn't do something on offense, we will be lucky to win 25 games this year. Rudy has not added 1 new wrinkle, despite the rule changes. You would think he would have come prepared right? After all, we don't have Olajuwon anymore.
WHAT?????? The Rockets got wide open shots and didn't hit them....and their DEFENSIVE intensity did not match the Knicks as they turned their up a notch. All teams go through scoring droughts...ALL of them, but if you play good defense you can survive. Hell, the Knicks only scored 8 points in the 2nd quarter....8....fricken points and they still managed to win...how? DEFENSE !!! DaDakota
I understand what you are saying Dakota. However, you have to admit that the Rockets make it extremely difficult on themselves when it comes to scoring. If a team plays any type of defense, the Rockets don't know what to do because they have no clue in moving the ball in their offensive sets. All, I'm saying (and it took me a long time to admit this) is that Rudy T's "offense", if you want to call it that, is prone to these droughts, always have and looks like always will. I know I was upset last night, but it is not very often, that you see a team blow a 17 point lead in the 3rd quarter on the road.
Miami have 2 wins, but I don't think I, or any NBA team, would think they'd walk all over the Heat because they hold opponents to 88 points during a (so far) 2 WIN SEASON! Despite scoring a measly 82 ppg, they are close in most of their games. If we don't score for 5 minutes, we hold the opponent scoreless for 5 minutes, not wait for them to have an unlucky string of shots!
