I'm thinking about getting a cable connection for internet use. There are a couple of different options where I live. One of them provides the modem and the account for about $35. Here's what I have a question about, however: there is a 5GB monthly transfer limit. How likely would a person be to use that much?

I work from home, so I'm on my computer most of the time. I use the internet quite a bit as is (I like to download stuff), but I suspect I would use it for some other things with a faster connection -- listen to music, watch highlights of Rockets games, etc. I looked at one of my ISP bills and saw where I was on the net for 180 hours that particular month. Don't know if that's high or low for me, however.

I think I'm on the interenet a lot -- high usage. Would a 5GB monthly transfer be considered high, low, or medium usage?

The other option is about the same price, so it doesn't really matter -- but I do have to buy the modem.

    5 GIG monthly transfer?
    what exactly does that mean?

you can download and upload 5 megs worth of stuff only? I don't understand?

What happen to the days of unlimited internet access?

Yes, your total upload and download cannot exceed 5 GB.

Look around for a couple programs that keep track of this. If you use the windows dialup (whether its analog/telephone or broadband), it will tell you what you have up'ed and down'ed for that session.

Five GB of monthly transfers is waaaaaaaay more than an average user would use in a month, but if you're downloading a lot of files, you may eclipse it. Even then, you'd have to be a warez freak or a p*rn freak (ask Achebe) to exceed a 5 GB/month bandwidth.

I'd steer clear of anyone restricting bandwidth like that for personal use...
