We need a new PG. Rafer Alston will not cut it. In the reg. season I had nightmares of him playing 40+ minutes in the playoffs, and those nightmares became reality. Can we finally hold this guy accountable? I'm tired of the Rafer apologists showing up and disappearing (kinda like Rafer) Just when we thought it couldn't get worse he goes 34% from the field and 32% behind the arc. He got the FT line only 13 times??? This guy continues to throw up bricks and it's hurting us. He made up for some of those missed shots on the defensive end, but this is a team that struggles to score. We need guys who can make WIDE open shots for a good percentage... The wide open threes just did not fall. We cant continue to live and die with this guy. When he plays well we win. I realize that nobody on our bench is a better, but it pisses me off that we failed to get someone at the trade deadline and the offseason. We need depth and Alston would be a great backup. obviously we need a PF also, but a shooting PG should be the number 1 priority
I have to agree with JVG on this one, u can't blame Rafer for his play. He is the ONLY legit PG on this team. Lucas/VSpan did make too many mistakes to put their trust in them. Next year? maybe, but not this year. It'll be interesting how the offseason will be.
Can someone explain the cap situation to me? Is there any remote possibility of us getting a higher caliber pg this summer? I know we're nearly maxed out, if not maxed out when it comes to the cap due to the max contracts of Yao and Tracy. However, is there anything under a possible sign and trade that could help, or anything else?
The kind of point guard that penetrates and creates offense for others would do wonders for this team. One that can finish at the rim and hit the open shot. Priority number one for the off-season in my opinion. If there is a position to ever go over the luxury tax for this team it is for the point guard position.
V-Span solves all of those except for the open shot bit, and that can be worked on...with playing time. DD
I agree. Rafer is the best PG on this team and he shouldve gotten the majority of the minutes. Even if we wouldve advanced, how long could have he gone playing 40 plus minutes every game. We need to get him some help and at the same time upgrade at the position and bring Rafer off the bench. But if we can make a significant upgrade while having to give up Rafer, i'm all for that too...it all depends on who we're getting though
I much rather go after someone who is proven like Mo Williams with the MLE or go over the luxury tax for one through a trade.
Sure......I would not start V-Span but I would play him at backup PG......to develop him. I actually think an athletic PF with an attitude would be equally important. Heck, I would quit screwing around and move Tmac to the point......he initiates the offense anyway..... DD
but how great could we be if we had a pg would could create and let tmac play off the ball every now and then?
I've supported Rafer here for quite a while, but only because there was no one on the market who was much better. Rafer has many of the thing a team would want in a PG and is lacking a few of the obvious ones as well. But the ONE thing you want most of all from your PG is consistency, and Rafer fails that test miserably. Bottom line: Skip had the best NBA chance he'll ever see, but didn't deliver.
