Tuesday October 2 10:47 AM ET Strom Thurmond Collapses on Senate Floor WASHINGTON (Reuters) - South Carolina Republican Strom Thurmond, at age 98 the oldest member of Congress, collapsed on the Senate floor Tuesday and was receiving emergency treatment. There was no immediate word on his condition as medical personnel and other senators rushed to his aid. The chamber was cleared and onlookers were ushered out. Among those attending to Thurmond was Republican Sen. Bill Frist of Tennessee, a practicing physician. Does this mean early retirement for the guy? rH
Strom Thurmond......the poster child for term limits.... His tired ass should have been booted outta there 20 years ago.
I wouldn't consider 98 "early retirement"! For someone of that age to still be alive is rare, much less holding down a job as a US congressman.
I guess it would be early retirement since he seems like he'll live to be 400 years old or something! That is a joke, jesus dude give up your seat to a younger guy who isn't going to collapse! By the way, is it just me or does he look like a white version of Temple basketball coach John Chaney?
He's supposedly been legally incompetent for a year and a half now... I hope he's ok, but perhaps he'll finally be replaced by someone who can better serve the people of North Carolina.
I thought that Strom Thurmond represented South Carolina . 98 years old is way too old to be doing a job like that...it's a friggin joke that he is still a senator at this age.
Why the hell does SC keep electing that redneck? He should be living in Del Boca Vista and wearing pants up to his armpits.
That was hilarious!! That was when Calipari was in UMass, and they had played Temple and they were arguing during the Temple game, And Chaney just busted into Calipari's team meeting after the game and wanted a piece of Calipari. Good stuff!
Is redneck considered a physical descriptive reference or a catchall phrase for a certain viewpoint/ideology? Mango
Mango, your from Australia, right? Anyhow, redneck is from being out in the sun all day workin on the farm. So it started off as a physical description, but now it's just derogatory/makin fun of white country hicks. Look up Jeff Foxworthy for more info.
redneck - to have a neck, particularly of the red persuasion oh and to be a stupid country hick (see stereotype)
Guess that doesn't say much for all those SC voters..... Gotta be "a catchall phrase for a certain viewpoint/ideology". If it was a descriptive term it would be turkeyneck.
Yea, I remember seeing that about a hundred times on ESPN. It seemed to go something like this: Calipari: (Addressing the media) I felt like we played an excellent game today. Everything was click... Chaney: Coach, I didn't appreciate your attitude in today's game. Calipari: (Looking at the media) You'll have to excuse Coach Chaney...he just can't handle losing to me and the University of Massachusetts, especially for the third time this season. Chaney: Why you little #@#%!! I'll kill you! I'll kill you! I'll kick your ass! I'll kick your ass! (People drag Chaney away while he's still screaming, "I'll kick your ass").
Mango, a little bit of both. Here's a little history refresher for you. Thurmond was a huge supporter of segregation in the South (Jim Crow laws) and supported George Wallace's presidential bid in 1960 I believe.
Ahh but he went one further and ran for president himself in 1948!!! 53 damn years ago! I believe as a candidate for the Dixiecrats. AP US History, is there anything useless it doesn't teach you.
