I'm renting an apartment at the moment, and I've just been informed that my Dish is in violation of my lease, and I have until Monday to get rid of it.

I'm not a huge TV guy, but not having Rockets games is going to kill me. Watching Heroes and Lost on the internet is going to be a little annoying.

Let the negotiations begin with my wife to upgrade to some kind of cable.

    :(

I just saw a report on this that stated apartments are lying. They can not tell you no to dish and their insurance waivers are illegal. They are just trying to pressure you into what they want for the complex.

I would push it if you really like dish.

I suggest you read your lease and ask them to point out the section which specifically states it is in violation of. I realize it is a small thing now, but when you sign a lease, you are bond to pay out that lease if you default or break it. If they claim that you've broken the lease bsed on something that isn't true, you need to nip it in the bud before they decide they can rent out your apartment to someone at a higher rate and come up with something else that "breaks" your lease.

Actually the notice I received included a copy of the part of the lease relating to this with the dish part highlighted.

    Looks pretty legit to me.

I think there are FCC rules that say you can't ban antennas and dish's. The homeowner must try to make it look somewhat appealing, but it can't be banned altogether. Not sure how it applies to apts. might look into it
