    From CBS Sportsline

Having won three consecutive championships with the Chicago Bulls, Dickey Simpkins will try to help the Los Angeles Lakers make it three in a row.

The two-time NBA champion Lakers signed Simpkins on Wednesday, reuniting the free agent forward with coach Phil Jackson.

    Terms were not disclosed.

Simpkins, 29, is a seven-year veteran who played most recently with the Bulls in 1999-2000, averaging 4.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 69 games. The 6-9, 255-pound Providence product won championships with Jackson in Chicago from 1996-98.

Simpkins has career averages of 4.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 326 NBA games with the Bulls and Golden State Warriors.
Forwards Dennis Scott, who holds NBA game and season records for 3-pointers, and Paul Shirley have signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 6-foot-8 Scott was cut in training camp by the Washington Wizards a year ago and did not play last season. Prior to that, he was with Minnesota, one of six NBA teams he's played for in his 11-year career.

Scott holds NBA records for most 3-point field goals made in a season (267) and a game (11). He was a first-round pick of the Orlando Magic in the 1990 NBA draft.

Shirley, a 6-10, 230-pound free agent from Iowa State, averaged 10 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Cyclones last season.

The balance of power in the west has just shifted, with the Fakers signing of Simpkins;)

Also, the signing of Scott puts an end to Rider's time as a Faker.

Rider will definitely be gone now and possibly Harper too. These 3 signings give them 20 guaranteed contracts!

Shaq, Kobe, Horry, Fisher, Hunter, Richmond, Fox, Shaw, Penberthy, McCoy, Walker, George, Simpkins, Scott, Shirley, Madsen, Medvedenko, Cornell, Crispin, Fontaine

I'll venture a guess that several of those contracts aren't guaranteed -- specifically, the ones for Penberthy (who sucked in the L.A. summer league), Shirley, Medvedenko, Cornell, Crispin, and Fontaine.

Only two of those six guys will survive training camp, IMO. And only Penberthy or Crispin will make the active roster (until whenever Fisher comes back).

penberthy averaged 18 points and shot 55% on three pointers in the spl, plus he led the team in assists and ran the triangle better than anyone there, how does that translate to him sucking there?

medvedenko has a guaranteed contract, he has a lot of size and scoring ability, every other part of his game needs a lot of work but he does have a very nice touch and good ability to handle the ball.

these are the ones without a guaranteed contract-crispin, fontaine, cornell, simpkins, mccoy(partially),penberthy(partially), and i would assume dennis scott and the shirley guy didnt get a guaranteed contract but i havent read it anywhere yet.

this is all the players that have guaranteed contracts
    1.shaq
    2.kobe
    3.fisher
    4.hunter
    5.richmond
6.shaw(team has option to cut him but definately wont)
    7.fox
    8.george
    9.walker
    10.madsen
    11.medvedenko
    12.horry

the lakers have said they only want a 14 man roster the rest will fight for 2 spots

mccoy, simpkins, cornell and shirley( ) will get one spot between them, i hope mccoy gets it because the other 3 suck

then they'll keep a three point specialist too, between pen, crispin, fontaine, and dennis scott. id say pen gets it because he has experience in the offense and they like him, they also gave him a 2 year partially guaranteed contract

my tips for the last 2 remaining spots-mccoy and penberthy

so what, all those guys has "signed". i saw that article 5 days ago. however penberthy and the other scrub signings did not get guaranteed contracts meaning if they are cut they dont get any of that money. penberthy may have "signed" but he hasnt made the team yet nor will he get any of that money if he is cut before the season. if everyone that had "signed" with the lakers make the team, the lakers would have a 20 man roster. the ones without a guaranteed contract will battle it out for 2 spots, since they can be cut without any loss

    get your facts straight, fool

From my post describing the Warriors-Lakers game on July 17th:

On the rare plays when the Warriors didn't have a fast break, Penberthy made Dean Oliver and Rashad Phillips look like NBA players as they blew past his impressionistic version of "defense."

Even in a summer-league game, he stood out as the most pathetic defender on the floor. That takes some doing.

I realize Penberthy will have to make the cut. I know he isn't guaranteed a spot. But he was the first to sign and be invited to training camp of the crop of other invitees. I'd say he has a good shot at making it. Especially in light of his competition. Paul Shirley??????

NOW, FOOL, get your facts straight. Simpkins has a partially guaranteed deal. Does Penberthy as well? Sooooo, there is penalty of a lesser degree, correct? You may want to check into that. So, I would pencil DICKEY into the roster.

They will keep Simpkins. He's one of Jackson's boys, and he played on the 96-98 squad.

first to sign? people that signed before pen-crispin, fontaine, cornell, mccoy. that is hardly first to sign

theres only one more spot for a guard. if crispin, fontaine, or even scott outplays pen in training camp, pen is gone. and go read my original post, i predicted pen would make the cut

mitch kupchak has already said he wants the roster at 14 at max, mccoy, pen and simpkins all have partially guaranteed contracts, that dont mean ****, one of them, if not more will have to go. go read the la times, their partial guarantee means they get a certain amount of their contract guaranteed if theyre still on the roster by december. if they get cut in camp, they get zilch, nothing. you want to pencil dickey in? go ahead, youll look like a fool, dickey is a stiff.
wennington played on that squad too. im not saying dickey wont make it, im saying mccoy has a much bigger chance

your first post was stupid, you said i didnt know pen had signed when i did know. i even said in my original post pen had a partially guaranteed contract. what was your point fool?

do you know what was going on? if you dont shut the hell up. he was telling me that i didnt know that pen had signed when i did, he was implying that just because pen had signed means he has been penciled in a spot, that is far from the truth
