Only have the hardware numbers and a few software numbers (no Gears, FF, Zelda, etc., though). Hardware: 360 numbers don't look that great (most predictions had it at 750K+, mostly due to GOW), nor do the PS3 numbers (terrible supply...guessing the 196K might even include a second shipment). Pretty much everything associated with Nintendo did extremely well (wow at GBA and DS numbers). PS2 is still going strong too...for some reason. The PSP....um...how about those DS and GBA numbers? None of the software sales shown were all that interesting. I'm kind of busy (have a test tonight and tomorrow), but I might try to post some updates later on for some of the bigger games (assuming I can find them).
Reading up on this, these numbers actually cut off before Black Friday/Black Friday weekend? Is that right? In any case; FF pulling big numbers as expected. Zelda's attach rate is huge. DS's numbers are unbelievable.
Yeah, I think NPD covers up to the 4th or 5th Thursday in a month (or something like that). So anything that was sold on Black Friday or after will be included in the December sales. There's always a small cutoff at the end of every month for these. Technically, none of the them have all the sales for a month, but it is easier just to label them that way. BTW, I think I read the PS3 tie ratio was actually >1. Surprised me...sadly.
Why would it suprise you? Sony sold a little over 100k at launch and ebay had over 30k listings. It's safe to say over 60% of the people who purchased the PS3 wanted to flip it for some $$$ (Im guilty of that as well). Everyone I talked to while camping said they were going to sell their PS'3s, even the people with rain checks.
It was a pleasant surprise. As you pointed out, most people that got PS3s seemed to have plans to sell them (and not buy any games). In Japan, the tie ratio was <1, so I was expecting something around that if not worse. So when I saw it was >1, I was surprised...but in a good way. The " " might have made my post confusing. I added that because it is pretty sad to be impressed by a >1 tie ratio.
What a bunch of losers. Camping for two days to get a freaking PS3 to flip for a few hundred bucks? In the equivalent amount of time at minimum wage you'd make > $2500 pretax
Understandable and a valid angle. I was intentionally going to keep my system, but i was able to help my brother score one. He kept his PS3 so I no longer saw any point in keeping mines when we live in the same household. I'll wait until the second batch of PS3's with less bugs are manufactured before I purchase my system. The games I want to play won't be out until March 07 anyways.
