Bring along a little extra cash. My car has broken down two of the last three times I have driven through there. Eerie...

Good to see you back ZRB!

That is pretty weird. It's like your own personal Bermuda Triangle, located entirely in Redding, California.

The same thing has also happened in Ashland, California. On the same stretch of I-5, WITH TWO DIFFERENT CARS!!

I guess that Southern Oregon and Northern California just don't agree with me! :D

    Thanks for the welcome.

Just curious, but how far driving-wise is Redding from Portland, the Oregan border and San Fran, respectively?
And how is its climate - is it wet like much of the Pacific Northwest or is it similar to the Bay Area?

    Thanks in advance.

Portland to Redding is about 460 miles. The Oregon border to San Francisco is about 330 miles. Straight down on I-5, I can usually make it to Redding from Seattle in one, full day. Redding to Portland should be no problem.

I have only been to Redding in the Summer, and it was pleasantly warm, and dry. San Francisco is much wetter, and not as hot.

i made it through redding w/o breaking down...

must be like vengeance said, must apply only to you. and btw, did you mean ashland, oregon? not california?

or maybe i got my free trip through redding, and the next 2 times i will break down.

from what i remember about redding, it's nowhere near as rainy as portland or seattle. but i can't say with any certainty, since i only drove through on my way to bend, oregon.

which, btw, has a desert-like climate. most people don't realize that on the eastern side of the cascades, washington and oregon are dry and desert-ish. the wet part of the pacific nw only exists west of the cascades. i'd say less than 25% of the land area of washington and oregon gets much rain.
