This summer I purchased a laptop from Dell (Inspiron E1505) and had problems with the audio cutting in and out the whole time. When I finally got around to trying to fix the problem, I noticed that my soundcard was a SigmaTel, not the upgraded Soundblaster advanced audio I had paid for.

So I called them up, they said sorry, and offered to send me a new laptop w/ the correct sound card in it free of charge. Fine, no problem. Well I get the computer yesterday, open it up, and notice the outside of the sound card looks the same. Go into device manager, and sure enough there's the SigmaTel Audio CODEC driver again.

So when I call to complain AGAIN, they tell me that every laptop comes standard with that, and that the upgrade I purchased was purely software to go with it. Why would they be selling software under the "Sound Card" section of the customize screen? I haven't looked into it much as I'll be studying all day, but I'm pretty sure that it should have been a completely different sound card.

    Any ideas? WWYD?

I looked this up on Dell's website and it appears to list it as Integrated SoundBlaster Audigy HD Software Edition which means it looks like you're screwed on this front. I could be wrong, but that's the way it appears to be.

I think you might be right. But, sometimes it pays to be ignorant I guess. They're sending out a 3rd one along with a $100 gift certificate. Guess I got my new computer speakers now. Thanks for your help anyways.

I don't like Dell's computers at all but their warranty policy and support policies are pretty damn good. As demonstrated in your case...

Dell is greatness. As is Microsoft. Just admit it. :D
