Hayes Carll is one of the best singer-songwriters to come out of Texas in years. He now calls Austin home, but grew up in the Houston area (Conroe). His self-produced album, Little Rock, was the first self - released cd to make it to # 1 on the Americana charts. He sounds a bit like Steve Earle and John Prine, and is equally entertaining between songs as he tells great stories that can rival those of Todd Snider. He sells out shows in Austin and often at the Mucky Duck there in Houston as well as the Old Quarter in Galveston. Long story short, for the few bucks it'll cost to get into Stack's place will be well worth it.
Carll is terrific - Arkansas Blues is one of my favorite songs. Miss Leslie has kind of a 1960ish Patsy Cline country sound (though her voice is a quite a bit different than Cline's). I've been meaning to catch Clouseaux for a while now.
