my mistake was in adding a new line under my t-mobile account for another person (somewhat a "friend"), and trusting him to pay for his portion of the phone bills. anyway, after frequent late payments, i decided to drop this guy from my account after the year was up. the last month ends, and he still owes close to $100.00 for his usage. it's been over a week now, and the jerk still hasn't paid. he has a new number, and refuses to pick up when i call. once in a while, i'll get a hold of him and he'll say he's about to pay. but i know that he probably never will. anyway, help a guy out if you can. what can i do to get this money from him? i don't really fight people, so i don't think kicking his ass is an option (although the urge to do so is overwhelming). and i tried getting help from t-mobile, but they can't really do anything. i'd consider an attorney, but i know it's not worth it. but i wish i had an attorney friend who could give me some tips, or help me write a letter to him that would scare him into paying. i'm pretty much thinking that at this point i have to suck it up and learn from my lesson. but i really wish this guy would get his. it recently came to my attention that he borrows money from lots of people who are his friends (initinally, anyway) and never pays them back.
Make up a fake letterhead, and a fake law firm, along with a fake attorney, signed with a fake signature. then send this real letter to your real friend. He'll get scared enough to pay you. I learned this from a scam artist who was my neighbor.
Does he have a pet? Waking up with your pet's innards splashed over you is...how shall I say it...a good wakeup call that you're serial...serious.
This person does not have any real friends. That is his reward for being a d*ckhead. WRT teaching someone a lesson ... A little life lesson here. Don't. This guy is f*cked up and he is the only one who change that. Now you might feel better if you somehow returned the d*ckheadedness favor to him. But you might want to question the logic of behaving like a d*ckhead to show another d*ckhead that being a d*ckhead aint cool.
What if he calls the fake number? Does he have to hire a fake secretary too? What if he says he paid you by sending the real check to the fake address? What is it with folks putting people on their cell phone accounts. On the People's Court (which my wife and I Tivo) about 25% of the cases are someone trying to get money from somebody they got a cell phone for. Hint: If their credit isn't good enough for them to get their own cell phone, their credit probably isn't good enough to pay you back.
I agree with Another Brother. Making a fake lawyer sounds good but has a lot of potential problems. Anyway I don't know any lawyers who would bother taking on a $100 case since for most of them that wouldn't even make up one hour of billable time. Having been victimized by d^ckheads myself, clients who don't pay and former roommates who didn't pay their share of bills, I can sympathize. All I can say is unless you know the person very well don't cosign or sign someone onto a plan where you have ultimate responsibility for paying.
Well actually what I was told was to put a friends phone number on the letterhead. Tell your "good" friend to progam in the "cheating" friend's number so when the phone rings he will know how to answer. But then again, its just a scare tactic, and like Sishir said, most lawyers wouldnt be taking your case for 100 bucks. I would take my chances.
here's my question: why would you add a line to your account for someone who's just a "friend"? i'd even have my reservations doing it for my best friend, let alone just a "friend".
Just learn from your mistake. Never go into "money" matters w/ a friend, let alone someone you consider "somewhat of a friend." Get stuff in writing and next time think to yourself, why doesn't this guy have an account on his own?
If he's not picking up because you are calling, precede dialing his number with *67. This will block the caller ID and is generally free to use.
I wouldn't do the fake attorney letter. This guy sounds like a jerk and will get you busted for unauthorized practice of law or fraud or some stupid crap like that.
