Would you know of a Web Server Stress Test tool for Web Servers whether IIS or Apache? I am looking for a tool that can do something similar to an DOS but simulating many users hitting a web server. I work for a University and we have almost all kinds of web servers, so it would have to run centrally from one server, preferrably Linux, and attempt to test through port 80.

    I have been testing this: funkload.nuxeo.org .

I also have been testing Microsoft's Stress Test tool, which is archaic.

someone in linuxquestions.org suggested Nessus, but I am looking for something similar to Micro$oft's click-recording feature... simulating what a regular user would do on a website.

Don't worry, Clutch, I am not going to test cf.net :D ... you'd have my IP ranged blocked forever.

Are you looking for tool to see what a machine can handle or are you looking for an availability tool?

Here is list of webstress tools.

Unfortunately most good tools that do this costs lots of money. I haven't used any open source versions.

    Nice. Thank you.

Try that funkload one. It's good for LOAD testing of a web server, but doesn't follow clicks.

Try OpenSTA. I've never used it, but I've heard some success with it. The last I looked, it was only for Apache servers/*nix, I think. :)

Hey Swoly, I didn't know you worked with web servers. That's what I've been doing for about the last 6 years, primarily IIS. We use Loadrunner, but I know that is fairly pricey. One of the guys I work with did some research not too long ago on various load testing tools, I'll see if I can get you some of the things he found.

Like others have said, Loadrunner.. SwoLy, you could always "evaluate" it off of Mercury’s 10 day free trial..
