Howard Kaloogian, a Republican candidate in the CA-50 special election, posts this picture, which he claims he took in Bahgdad: After some digging by bloggers, it was revealed that the picture was actually of The Istanbul suburb of Bakirkoy. A blogger found another picture of the same neighborhood in Turkey: (Source Daily Kos) The story doesn't end there. Who is this Kaloogian character anyways? Well, for one thing, he helped organized the "Truth Squad" tour of Iraq: Ironic huh? I generally don't like to post stuff from political blogs, but this story has made it to Newsweek, NY Times, and the general non-political blogsphere. This could be an honest mistake, or could be the same old political BS we've come to expect from politicians. Of course, one would expect a higher standard of integrity (or at least diligence) from the very people crying about bias in the media.
When a Republican group trying to build support for the war, calls itself the truth squad, there was a good chance it would end up like this.
Hah ha ha ha. The sad part is, thsi charlatan may in fact be right insofar as most of his supporters aren't informed enough to differentiate between the picture of Istanbul (and the roman alphabet signs in the background) and what Baghdad would look lke.
Josh Marshall has been having a field day with the whole affaire -- -------------- Kaloogian crows to the moonbats. The email the exposed bamboozler sent out to supporters Thursday evening ... Maybe send him some money so he can buy some genuine pictures. -- Josh Marshall
whoa, whoa, whoa, let's not jump to conclusions! Muslims are all alike and terrorist so they probably all have the same city planners and things look the same. sincerely, The last 20% of the country that still has their head in the sand.
As was pointed out on someplace else that I can't remember, all you have to do is look at the way the women are dressed to know it's not Iraq.
