My hard drive's gone bad and I have to send it back to Dell after I receive the new one from them. Should I do anything past reformatting the drive before I send it back?

I wouldn't. Just give it a good fall and send it on it's merry way.

One other question... is there a way to move my iTunes library and keep all the records? I don't really want to go back and rerate the songs I like and all of that all over again. I have an external hard drive with room.

If I used iTunes to export my entire library to the external hard drive and then just saved the .xml and .itl files from the iTunes folder, would just replacing the the xml and itl files from the new install on the new hard drive do it?
