I'm interesed in finding a small and simple freeware app that will help me architect a software application. I would like the ability to indicate controls (buttons, lists, combo boxes, etc.), drag them around the page, indicate tabs, trees, or other navigation....indicate application flow, etc.

... I'm looking for an app that will let me do all that. Any suggestions?

Smart Draw 7 works pretty well. You can find it on sourceforge.net.

It will leave a watermark when you publish the document. It works fine for me for internal purposes. Are you publishing the docs for clients?

No. It will be used internally. Watermarks aren't dealbreakers, but I'd prefer not to have them.

Just following up. Anytime we had to diagram software projects in school, we were always told to use DIA. Microsoft Visio was the "buy this if you want to buy something" solution.
