    1. San Antonio Spurs – The rich get richer. The Spurs return everyone. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are in their prime and now the Spurs have Finley and Van Exel. Oh my.

    Phoenix 2. Phoenix Suns – They got tougher and stronger defensively in the offseason. But will they still be able to run past people?

    Houston 3. Houston Rockets – Yes, the backcourt is aging, but Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady looked awfully good together in the postseason. They should break through in a big way this season.

    Denver 4. Denver Nuggets – They took off under George Karl when he was hired in midseason. Now Carmelo Anthony and company have him for a full year.

    Sacramento 5. Sacramento Kings – How good is Geoff Petrie? He managed to overhaul an aging, overpaid roster and transform it into a good young team. All in the span of one year.

    Dallas 6. Dallas Mavericks – They lost their leader in Steve Nash last season, and now they've lost their heart and soul in Michael Finley. The Mavs will miss him more than they think.

    Utah 7. Utah Jazz – The Jazz hope they finally have their replacement for John Stockton in Deron Williams. The key for this team, though, is staying healthy.

    L.A. Lakers 8. Los Angeles Lakers – Phil Jackson returns, and he'll solidify this club. Kobe Bryant is still one of the top-five players in the NBA, but who will play alongside him at the point position?

    Golden State 9. Golden State Warriors – The Warriors might be the surprise team of the season. They're young, fast and fearless. If Baron Davis stays healthy, they could be in the playoffs for the first time since 1994.

    Seattle 10. Seattle SuperSonics – Can the Sonics repeat their magical season of a year ago? It will be tough to do, especially without Antonio Daniels and Jerome James.

    Minnesota 11. Minnesota Timberwolves – The Wolves felt like they achieved addition by subtraction by unloading Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell. But there wasn't much of a talent upgrade this offseason.

    Memphis 12. Memphis Grizzlies – They also shed themselves of some malcontents and added solid veterans in Damon Stoudamire, Eddie Jones and Bobby Jackson. But they won't be enough to get the Grizzlies back to the playoffs.

    L.A. Clippers 13. Los Angeles Clippers – It's the same old story for the Clips. They have loads of talent, but will it all fit together? There are so many scorers but not enough distributors. One basketball won't be enough for this group.

    Portland 14. Portland Trail Blazers – Nate McMillan takes over and gives the Blazers hope for the future, but they're still a few years away from contending.

    New Orleans 15. New Orleans Hornets – As if things weren't bad enough for this franchise, now they're displaced from their home due to Hurricane Katrina and will play in Oklahoma City. The Hornets are in for a long season.

    Decent rankings.

    I think Sac and Utah might be too high and Golden State too low (GS is my sleeper pick this year).

    Clippers are the wild card this season and don't deserve to be placed 13th...

    i disagree with these rankings, change us and phoenix and then he has something

    i may be bias but i think we have the best chance against spurs :D

    Kerr pisses me off on NBA Live 06. His comments are always so damn negative.

    His rankings are okay though, I guess.

    Steve Kerr is an idiot. If I remember correctly, he picked the Jazz to finish 4th among other stupid picks. Rockets will be #1 or #2.

    I'm not sold the Suns. Their strength last year was their perimeter attack and 2/3rds of it is gone. Talk about aging they picked up Kurt Thomas and Brian Grant. Funny how the Suns got tougher but they're not considered "aging".

    Denver is being OVERRATED by everyone! They had a great run on the second half of the season but haven't done anything to address shooting needs.

    I think the Suns are built (aside from Amare) for the short run, to possibly win in the next 2-4 years before Nash breaks down.

    Grant is not a key for them IMO. He is a bonus big body (I think Burke will see more time than he does). Well still see Marion at the 4 and Amare at the 5.

    They lost Q and JJ but they picked up a couple of players in House and Jones, that are lesser, but are fairly good perimeter scorers.

    Anyway ....Im probably one of the few around here who isn't predicting a big drop off for Phoenix. What gets me is, everyone was saying how their style last year wouldn't last ...so they changed to have more of a balance, and we say they now aren't as good.

    I think he has it just right. The jazz seem like the sleeper team especially in the weak division they are in. The Suns are still a legit team and I agree with what Codell says. They may have lost JJ and Q rich but Nash is still the MVP and does know how to make players around him better. Amare is only getting better every year and Marion does such wonders living off the garbage points and working around Amare and Nash. The outside shooting really sin't that horrible. They may not have the names like JJ and Q rich but I'm sure nash will provide them with enough attempts that they will put up better numbers they have ever had in their careers. They are still definitely up there and I don't disagree with them being second on this list. Our guys have just as much to prove as the Suns' new additions do. Our guys seem more injury prone too and that is the one thing that would stop me from putting them in second place right now.
