If this thread exists I'll be happy to merge ... but I was wondering if we could get a list together of places in Houston that are offering free or discounted goods or services. I just met a family from New Orleans that could use all the help they can get and they had never been to Houston ... I figured that knowledge would be very helpful for them.

I work for Texas State Optical and I think they're giving out free eye exams and a voucher for glasses or contacts. I'm not so sure on that since I only glanced at the memo. You should try and contact them, Clutch, to find out more.

    Luby's off of 1-10/Federal, giving 10% off
IHOP on Kirby/59 South, free meal, as of last Wednesday, dunno about now

numerous business around the same area (Kirby/Buffalo Speedway/Weslayn) giving discounts for food.

    Pretty crappy specials...

Might as well give them all a Gold C coupon book.

According to RM95, Magnolia Bar and Grill is giving, I repeat, GIVING free chicken etoufee to Katrina victims. Now, that's a special.

Yeah, most of the "specials" or "discounts" i've heard are pretty laughable.

Yeah that's what I was thinkin too..but then again if you look at the list of those restaurants...if you lost EVERYTHING, would you really have the money to dine at Fox Sports Grill? I'd tend to think the mom and pop places might be a little more generous in this regard.

My gf works at Cheesecake Factory, and belive it or not, some Katrina "survivors" came in and asked if they were offering any discounts. Well I think you can guess the answer. My question would be, wth were they doing at Cheesecake in the first place. Even if they discount it to 50%, it's still expensive!

Anyone read all of those and get to this one? Are we trying to encourage them to buy a paddle boat for next time this happens or what?

And 10% off at a restaurant seems like more of an attempt to draw in business than to help these people out.
