    Hey guys,

I know a thing or two about computers, but not enough to be able to diagnose problems and fix 'em.

My problem is hardware, not software. I have this old Dell laptop that I gave to my younger brother to use a while back. Unfortunately, he accidentally spilled coke all over it and needless to say it hasn't been functioning since about that time.

Now, I am wondering if I can give the laptop to someone here on the BBS who can look at it and try to figure out what's wrong and what needs to be replaced. I would also like to know if it's worth repairing/replacing the parts inside the laptop or if I should just dispose of it. I would be willing to pay a few bucks to repair it but not too much, for I could just go on eBay and get him a used laptop to use for his school work and stuff.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone here has a suggestion about what I should do with it, or what course of action should I take. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Places like Microcenter and Best Buy charge $90 to inspect it and figure out what is wrong with it. Then, they send it offsite to have repaired and you have to pay for those repairs as well. Total turnaround time is a few weeks.

That series of laptop isn't even worth repairing. Best you buy him a new one. There are tons of laptop deals at the moment. Dell is having a 750 off today in fact.

Don't use the code until the time it states or else you'll just get a coupon expired message.

You'll find something comparable on there I'm sure.

Do you honestly think that I would pay that type of money for this idiot brother of mine? HELL NO!!! I am going to make sure he regrets drinking coke near a computer again, or anywhere for that matter!

OKay, that might be a bit harsh, but I already did him a favor by giving him the computer for his personal use, and I ain't exactly got deep pockets to fork out a few hundred bucks for his azz, u know what I am sayin'? I will probably make him pay for the repair, and I can tell you he is broke.

LOL! Yah well, I got no house of my own for now, so maybe I will defer his punishment until then. :D
