I've got a computer that is 10 feet away from my TV/Stereo system. Is there a way I can get the music on my computer to go to the speakers on my stereo???
buy something like this http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001F22PA/qid=1114360082/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-0433215-9612948?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846 Just hook that up to your soundcard.
since your computer is only 10 feet away, can't you just run a long wire (from Radio Shack) from the speaker out of your PC to some auxiliary input of your stereo. You will probably also need a stereo 1/8th to RCA adapter. If you still need your PC speakers buy a y-adapter. If you want to spend a little money, you could buy one of these: cd3o Network MP3 player All of their models have wired ethernet which is what I'd do instead of wireless. (When I did something similar (using a laptop) with wireless I had dropout problems.) Since your PC is only 10 feet away, you could just run a crossover cable from a network card on your PC to the back of the device. I've never used the cd3o but it should do the trick. The disadvantage of the cd3o product is that there is no front display. However, since your PC is only 10 feet away it shouldn't be too hard to see what's playing. What I do to play mp3's on my stereo from my PC is use my wife's laptop across a home network. I have all my songs on a shared drive on my PC. I mapped a drive from my wife's laptop to the shared drive and just use Windows Media Player 10 to play all the songs across the network (which is kind of what that cd3o device does only I'm using a laptop instead of a proprietary device). Do a google search for network MP3 players and you should get more hits for similar devices. The FM transmitter device that Dave2000 mentioned would probably work, however, the sound quality of those things is awefull. Even if they worked perfectly you'd only get FM radio quality which isn't very good not to mention that it's probably powered by a car's cigarette lighter and I doubt you have one of those handy in your house.
Like chase said, get a $7 wire from Radio Shack. You will have a much easier time if you have an extra set of inputs on the back of one of the speackers, usually labelled auxillay, aux, or CD. Plug direct in and there you go. However, if you're willing to spend $$ on a wireless speaker router- dude, just buy another pair of comp speakers and dedicate them to the TV. Same money or less.
