to anyone who has ever switched their electric company

    is this a difficult thing to do? right now the city of austin wants me to pay a $200 deposit after i moved to a different apartment because i was late on a payment like 8 months ago. since then i have been overpaid and i haven't made a payment on my account until this month, obviously they don't take that into consideration.

    anyhow...i am just getting prepared to switch if i have to so i don't have to pay this ridiculous deposit.

    Im with Entergy right now and have been for a few years ...my highest bill with them has been $235 .....with Reliant, my bill was as high as $350

    I was going to say I didn't think Austin had alternative choices. At least according to their flyers they are one of the cheaper companies in the state though.

    Yes, Austin has a municipal-owned electric company, which was not part of Texas' deregulation of retail electric providers. So basically Austin and San Antonio (among other places) residents are excluded from the option of switching electric companies.

    I know in Houston, Centerpoint actually owns all the hardware (lines and service).

    Reliant just sells you the energy, and they are required by law to be the most expensive.

    You should shop around.
