A friend of mine just turned me on to Anderson's Coffee in Austin, a local coffee roaster. Man oh man is this stuff good!

So, with that, anybody else buy locally roasted coffee? Anybody roast their own? I've been thinking about trying the air-popper method of roasting myself. What about tools? Any french press fans out there? Recommendations for affordable espresso machines?

I love coffee. The wife and I usually stop at Panera every morning on the way to work and pickup coffee and bagels. Their dark and vibrant blend is really good.

I hate coffee and never have liked it. The after taste is horrible.

I approach coffee in a utilitarian manner. Choke it down, feel the impact of the caffeine, don't even give thought to the taste. Make it cheap. I usually start the day with a large coffee from a fast food restaurant (McDonalds/Burger King/Whataburger) on the way in. All three cost under $1 with tax.

Smart. I have an associate who was drinking Starbuck's every single work day. After I mentioned to her that was costing her around $80 a month, I noticed she doesn't have a Starbuck's cup in her hand when she comes in the office as much as she used to.

Of course, if she's paying that much, she's buying something other than just regular coffee, like a latte or mocha. You can get regular coffee at Starbucks for $1.35 or so.

I drink Kroger generic brand stuff, btw.

Zabar's Dark Espresso, steeped for 4 minutes in a french press. my morning routine. before starbucks came to NYC, there used to be a little Bodum boutique on Madison ave. they sold individual, freshly made, fench press cups of coffee made w/ starbucks espresso roast. still the best coffee exerience i've ever had.

up in the adirondacks, in a little town called wadhams, there's a baker that roasts beans in a wood burning brick oven, then brews fresh coffee- it's pretty awesome on those mornings when the early morning temp is 20 below!

But you're right too...it's still silly. That's why I feel a little guilty everytime I get one. :)
