The irony of this from you, Reed has WAY more "good PG" tools than Amen "I can't shoot, can barely dribble and have basic passes" Thompson.
I think Amen is going to be a fine backcourt player and is our best initiator. He is a good ball handler and improving, gets to the rim almost at will, and passes every bit as well as Reed (makes way fewer mistakes in that regard). It doesn’t always have to be a discussion of Amen vs Sheppard. If Sheppard had a rim protector, he and Amen could form a dynamic backcourt and share the initiation duties. You guys are the ones that are being so black and white about the whole PG BS. The NBA is now more positionless than ever before. Amen is averaging about the same assists as FVV did last year with about 70% less initiation duties. Reed could do the same if he could stay on the court with a rim protector. Reed fanboys can’t except any kind of objectivity about his strengths and weaknesses. Your assessment of Amen is beyond idiotic and just hyperbolic hate. Most every one on the board has reached the same conclusion, Amen is our best young player.
Driving back from Lubbock, but have to comment to current discussion. - Reed is a PG. - He already has best vision and passing instincts on the team. - He's a great shooter and will get better with more experience. His handle will get better and has already improved from beginning of the season. His defense is not as bad as his critics want to pretend and his hands are elite. He's a playmaker/disruptor on defense and with a rim protector he should be unleashed. It's why he does well paired with Clint.
Amen's a great prospect. As a wing/forward. He has neither the skill, the shooting or the vision to be a PG. Running him in the backcourt is a lose-lose, we get him nowhere near as effective because he's playing out of position, and it helps reinforce Ime's "I want to run 5 PF's" philosophy. You just hate anybody else being a guard because you're an Amen only fan at this point, and you only ever advocate for the ball in his hands regardless of how unsuitable he is for the role. Real talk. Edit: You should also be banned from ever calling anybody else "idiotic" after calling yourself a "basketball God." You're probably the most delusional person on the entire forum.
The god bit was a joke, but I could understand how a troll like you would not get it. Far as I can tell, all your comments are just criticisms of other posters. You add nothing but vitriol to the site. I’ve been advocating for Reed to start since the all-star break and have consistently said he, Amen, and Sengun should be the initiators on the offense. Why don’t you offer some solutions for a change? This site is about debate. If you don’t like my opinions you don’t have to read them.
This is pure box score watching. The types of passes Reed makes and the advantages he creates lap Amen’s passing which is mostly drive and kicks. Not to mention his bad handles, complete lack of a shot, and mid dribbling. I legit can’t believe anyone thinks such an offensively stunted player will be a #1 or #2 guy, #2 is a reach imo.
If Amen gets a shot he is SGA with better defense. He already averages 18 pts and 5 assists on incredible efficiency. His expected assists are greater than 10 a game. Drive and dishing is one of the most critical aspects of being a pg. I’ve said it before, if Reed can develop a drive and dish game and play decent defense, he can be a starting PG. Without those two things, he is a sharp shooter off the bench. It’s not hate for Reed as his fanboys always accuse anyone with an objective comment about him proclaim. I dare say I’ve probably watched more Rockets basketball than most anyone on this board and pay good money to do it since I no longer live in Houston. I am the opposite of a box score watcher. Since 1987, I’ve probably missed 8 to 10 games.
You should read more, I'm vehemently pro-Reed (despite loving to poke the people who still believe he has 41 inch vert) I'm also actually pro-Amen, just not as a guard in any way shape or form. I'm also one of the few people who's still a Sengun fan. Of course because your entire universe revolves around Amen you can't see the forest for the trees, but it is what it is. Heliocentric fandom is lame af, it's your entire existence on the forum.
Dillingham had more usage but as I pointed out, Reed averaged more assists. Reed still brought up the ball and initiated offense, less than dillingham though sure. But that doesn’t make him ‘simply a shooter’. And he wasn’t completely off ball either, even with both playing at the same time.
I don't think it's box score watching, it's spin intended to push a narrative. He did the same when he was a Jalen fanboi. When you're trying to push a narrative that a player who by some measures is the worst jumpshooter in the league who has a questionable handle and is best used in the dunker's spot... is actually a PG, it's difficult to be completely honest.
I agree Sheppard had more pg duties when Dillingham was out as he usually shared the backcourt with Reeves. He was the primary handler in those situations. Reeves I was referring to their primary duties and how they were used. Dillingham was the primary playmaker and ball handler when he was on the floor with Sheppard. Sheppard was usually relegated to shooting with the occasional drive if he had an opening.
Agreed. if we give it some time and let amen and Reid grow together it can be extremely affective. We just need to surround them with the right players
