    Some important context is that the original Comets folded around the time of the 2008 financial crisis. The economics of the league are different now than they were then.

    It's not dissimilar from MLS expanding back into Miami after one of their original teams, the Miami Fusion, folded for similar financial reasons. There's no Lionel Messi for the new Comets to sign, but failing 20 years ago isn't a guarantee that they'll fail today.
