He's finally getting minutes on a shitass team, after two years of nothing... Can't turn down the money, but he should have, for developmental purposes, stayed at UH for another year.
Not a shocking result to anyone who watched the team play this year. They really lacked Jwan Roberts this year and any real structure on offense. They had games like this throughout the year. That being said, they need to do something about these college teams fielding a team of Euros that just transfer here to play collegiate ball. Could easily see this getting out of hand and college basketball becoming a glorified Euro Extension Conduit.
Yeah half that team was semi-pro “18-19 year old” Eastern Europeans lol Pretty good strategy honestly
I fully support anybody going and getting their bag. But I truly don't understand how the talent pool in the draft is so shallow that guys like Cenac and Flemings would go first round.
UH couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. And, I hate to say it, but we were outcoached too. Tugler brought it. The rest of them stunk it up. At the end of the day, we were outplayed. Kingston will go top 5. Cenac, somewhere between 9 - 13.
Embarrassing loss for Coach, I thought. They were playing in Houston and got undressed. Credit to Illinois, but damn, son. Obviously, it's hard to complain about a "down year" in the Sweet Sixteen, but the team didn't look interested in going any further last night. Shooting and offensive rebounding were bad. If Cenac had trouble with the Slavs playing for Illinois, good luck in the NBA next year, kid! Felt a bit like he and Flemings were already dreaming about the draft. Uzan and Sharp weren't any better, though. Ultimately, I think this team just wasn't old or tough enough to compare to the best teams of the Sampson era. I think whoever comes back will be hungrier next year and driven harder by the staff to have a killer instinct. But somebody's gonna have to make buckets. Dog-walking the Aggies was a great tournament moment that I'll enjoy remembering. Rooting for Zona from here on.
It really is that simple. The roster was a little thin, but good enough to compete with anyone. They just weren't able to go on a run where everyone was playing at a high level. Jojo was probably the most steady player but even he only really turned it on during the tournament. There is a post game interview where Chase McCarty is reflecting and mention how Milos is going through some stuff that that us the fans dont know about. maybe that explains his inconsistent play? regardless, im not gonna knock him. milos uzon is a certified dawg and will be missed
Sampson has publicly complained about it a couple of times this year, I'm assuming to try and light a fire under the donors' asses ...and Fertitta just spent $300M on a WNBA team
Izzo under fire. Fans think the game has passed him by. Sampson starting to get questioned too. Media starting to frame him as a choker. Ridiculous. I don’t care if Sampson doesn’t make the tourney ever again. This program was dead in the water for 33 years. Absolutely irrelevant the whole time. I never thought it was remotely possible to do what he has done at UH. Maybe the best turnaround for a program in college bbl history.
Last year Uzan thrived at taking it to the hoop and would dish or hit the floater. Hard to defend. Got a lot of oops like that too. He did very little of that this year and was hesitant to shoot the 3. He’s a solid 3 point shooter but wasn’t comfortable this year. Had trouble picking his spots. Never got used to deferring to Kingston. You could probably lay some of that on the coaching staff, although it’s coming out that Uzan may have had some off court stuff going on too. Hard to say at this point but I feel like he should’ve improved in his new role as the season progressed. Although he had some flashes, he never really progressed. Hindsight 20/20, I think Mercy Miller would’ve been a more decisive and confident player, offensively, at the 2 than Milos was. McCarty too. Next year our starting 5 is probably… McCarty Mercy Diane Tugler Portal pg? I really wanted to see McFarland make strides this year but it seems he’s having issues getting over the mental hurdle of his recovery. If he could do this, he may be an x factor next year in the Coog frontcourt. Harwell is a McDonalds all-american. Hard to believe how much he struggled as a frosh. He was also recovering from an injury though. If he can get back to speed and gain some confidence, he could be an amazing player for us. He’s already a top notch defender but did seem lost on offense. His playing time dwindled down to irrelevance by seasons end.
Duarte mentioned in an article that they're monitoring Thahaad Pettiford from Auburn and a Isaiah Johnson from Colorado. Pettiford would be expensive but would easily be the best pure scorer we've had since Marcus Sasser.
