You are right, it’s not impossible. 2 teams in the 21st century have team defenses not in the top ten. Denver at 15th the year they won and GSW was 11th one year that they won. I think they will run it back with a tweak or two, but no major trade. Most of the trade scenarios I put out, are for entertainment purposes and to illustrate how I think this team should be built after the inevitable disappointment of this year and next or in response to others making suggestions. I think those discussions are more fun than just the same old arguments that are being regurgitated endlessly.
I'm not sure how accurate defensive stats are (they usually aren't), but showing one game's results as proof that what people have been saying is an issue of his for an entire season is probably not the way to go. His DFG% is the worst on the team this season, and post-ASB it's a lot worse than pre-ASB. That being said, like I said, I'm not sure how accurate DFG% is at measuring what we think it's measuring.
You will not be a championship team if you roll Sengun and Reed out there. Use your eyes and you can see that. One of the two will absolutely have to go.
I always knew a large portion of people on Clutchfans had no idea what they even watch defensively. The fact they're back to the 'Sengun can't play defense' spiel literally a season right after every. single. defensive. metric. said he was far far better than he was bad at defense. What changed? The people defending around him. The perimeter has gone back to swiss cheese almost as if it's the zero IQ backcourt of Jalen and KPJ once more. And here we are back again with the same moronic idiots who wouldn't know how to view defense if it slapped them across the face, are saying Sengun is horrid at defense again because he not only can't stay attached to his man whilst at the same time defending the wide open guard who's strolled past the perimeter defense and then also can't box out three players at once. The only player in the NBA held to these standards hahaha. It's hilarious.
Crazy statement considering how young they both are. Reed is only going to get stronger which will only improve his defense significantly. And when he makes shots it doesn’t matter how bad his defense is. 3>2
Imagine if he actually had shooters that could make 3s when they get the pass, instead of Jalen, DFS, and the like.
Yeah hes a joke on defense. He dunked on someone last night, beat his chest then got dunked on by the same guy the next play down. Thats Alperen Sengun in a nutshell
"WHY DOES ALPEREN NOT PASS TO REED" "ALPEREN IS A BLACK HOLE" Some of the hilarious things said recently.
If Jalen had actually got consistent and his flashes became the norm, Alpi's numbers would've benefited in more than just the assist totals I think. Teams wouldn't have been able to load up on him as much at all. It really does suck that Jalen was the one who failed to live up to the pick the most, because if he had hit we'd probably have been legit contenders.
We all wished Jalen could have lived up to his billing. I wish him the best, but he really set the Rockets back.
It's game like this that make you think, maybe ATW shouldn't be banned. This was an ELITE defensive game played by Sengun, he wasn't ok, or passable, or good. He was elite all night. EDIT, unfortunately lapsing in the last 3 minutes of OT. The ban stays.
I was legit almost getting emotional at Alpi giving up his body and taking over the game on both ends. I understand that this level of defense is not always sustainable, but when he gets it going, there is nobody I'd rather have
