I got more rhymes than a got gray hairs, and that's a lot because I got my shairs I got mad hits like I was Rod Carew
I REALLY hope Allen doesn’t make the team, Joe will use him way too much and make the infield situation even worse
Loperfido starts in LF. Matthews will get starts against LHP and when they want to give an outfielder some rest. Meyers will be the CF until he gets hurt or a combination of Meyers not hitting and one of the young guys stepping up in a major way.
I think the Astros need to give him an extended opportunity to see what he can do. Put him somewhere at the bottom of the lineup and see how much chaos he can cause. Chaos/speed is one of those things that stresses a pitcher and can lead to good things but it doesn't always show up in stats. If Yordan's not out there, I would start the entire young OF at this point - Dezenzo, Cole, and Smith, with Matthews rotating in - and just see what happens.
Had a blast at Spring Training. Went to 2 games in WPB and 1 in Bradenton. It was 45 degrees and windy for the game in Bradenton and we packed nothing but shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. I also bought tickets in the shade weeks ago thinking it was going to be 90 degrees..... yeah, no. Didn't get to meet as many players as in years past, but got to talk to LMJ, Brice and C Vázquez. Espada too. All were totally cool. Brice is from Humble and actually went to the elementary school my wife teaches at. He said he remembered her even though he was never in her class. Not sure what's going to happen this year, but I am literally counting the milliseconds until Opening Day..... I love this team so much.
I’m fascinated by Cole, but I think Matthews and Loperfido deserve the chance more at this point. I’m sure he will get a shot when we can give him some regular at bats. Hopefully whoever is the hitting coach in AAA can fix all the whiffing without losing power.
I'm feeling old. My first gut reaction is that's a lot of strikeouts. That's a very old way to view things. Granted, I would not bet on those guys as a group doing well, as overall I expect their damage on contact does not make up for the empty plate appearances. One of those guys might have a great year though.
Yeah, I suspect many would fail but there's too many of them that need a consistent opportunity. I'd spend the first month or two trying to give it to them (I forgot Loperfido too). It would suck for Meyers, but we generally know what he is and when one or more of them fail, he'd ready to step up. They just all have too much upside to just get stuck as bench or AAA players without seeing how they can do on a consistent basis, I think. It's the opposite of the infield logjam where there are too many proven players. There are too many equally unproven/high upside players in the outfield. Injuries/sucking might also resolve that too, though.
